Room Description:
St Francis Hostel was built in 1996. The rooms are well maintained with a robust deferred maintenance program in place to ensure that they are kept fresh and neat with good quality carpet and fittings. St Brigid - St Clare and St Dominic Houses are each separate wings of the hostel comprising 10 single ensuite rooms - each of which open on to a main passageway that leads to the common areas of a shared dining room and lounge. Each room has a rear sliding glass door and security door that opens out on to a small brick paved outdoor area bounded by the spacious gardens. Each House has a common - brickpaved outdoor area with table and chair settings so that visitors can enjoy this with the resident when they visit. The Houses are interlinked by covered walkways and are surrounded by neatly manicured gardens. For fire safety all rooms are fitted with a sprinkler system and smoke alarms monitored by Fire Indicator Panel connected to the fire service. All rooms have a telephone socket - TV aerial point and built in robes. A modern hospital bed and bedside locker is provided unless the resident chooses to provide their own. Built in robes allow for generous storage space for clothes. Temperature is regulated by a reverse cycle air-conditioner. Common Area Details:
There is a kitchen and dining area in which breakfast is prepared and served to residents. A communal dining room is provided within the main administration block for the midday and evening meal and all main meals are cooked on site in the well-appointed kitchen which adds to the homelike atmosphere of the facility. A communal lounge is available with a large wide screen TV - piano and sound system. This amenity is used for the many concerts and entertainment that is provided for residents. A patio that leads off the dining area provides sun and weather protection in a pleasant outdoor setting.

Specific Features:
A spacious garden area at the rear of the Administration block contains a gazebo in the middle of the grassed area which is used by family groups for gatherings. A short stay room - set up motel style - is available at no cost for family members to stay in when their relative is in palliative care so that they can be close in their final days.

Additional Care Info:
Administration of a Safekeeping account at no cost to the resident is available for payment of pharmacy - hairdressing - newsagent accounts etc. This also allows for withdrawals of small amounts of cash so that residents can maintain financial independence without the risk of having to keep large amounts of money in their rooms. Fixing of picture hooks and a bracket for wall mounted television sets are provided through the Maintenance department at no cost. All laundry is done on site including personals except for those delicate items where family would prefer to take care of these.

Meals for visitors can be purchased at minimal cost and consumed in comfort in the House dining room. A Hairdressing Salon is on site and a Hairdresser is available two days a week. A Podiatrist visits once a fortnight and depending on the level of care there may be a charge for this service. Costs associated with the testing and tagging of electrical items owned by the resident is passed on to the residents. This is carried out once every twelve months in accordance with our risk management strategy. A Community Centre is available for hire by residents at reasonable cost to celebrate milestone events such as birthdays and anniversaries.

All rooms have a telephone socket - TV aerial point and built in robes. A modern hospital bed and bedside locker is provided unless the resident chooses to provide their own. Built in robes allow for generous storage space for clothes. Temperature is regulated by a reverse cycle air-conditioner.
